Well did you happen to hear
the story of the scorpion?
There was a sting in the tail
and as for the comedian,
he's lived to tell the tale
about a night he felt his dead-self come alive,
(that's right, in spite of those bad lines)
You see just last night I went to a stand up show,
And you could put it down, to giving up the ghost,
Said just last night I fell well short of my post of top dog
(don't put me down, or stand me up on tour)
Said so many thoughts entered my head as I
Got prepared, to take the stage by surprise...aye aye
Thinking this could be the night I really get them going,
through sheer sidesplitting laughter, not splitting on its own,
maybe this'll be the night I get heckled through their long protracted yawns,
(I'll let you sleep on it and then return my call)
Said did you happen to hear about the chameleon?
As man hides his cheeks in shame when he turns vermillion,
And it was getting to the stage which had me thinking this'll be a laugh
(no sweat, there's none I ain't seen yet).
but although, though, I felt encouraged by, such amusing lines,
I had then prepare to take the stage
with butterflies, aye aye aye.
And as I forgot my opening line
I was then met with scornful cries
except for that down where I heard
emanating from the final third
And in all of the blinding light I couldn't tell my left from right
But I could damn sure hear her voice rising high up above the boys
In saying now let's take it slow, I then replied with don't you know
That a plane must come unstuck before it can then soar above
Soar above all of your heads although my words went over/under them,
except for that she who laughed, maybe one of the bar staff
Give me just another one, can I get another one?
Give me just another one, deserved of another one
Said did you happen to hear
the story of the scorpion?
There was a sting in the tail
and as for the comedian,
he's lived to tell the tale
about a night he felt his dead-self come alive,
(that's right, although the place had died)
Now that they'd all disappeared, I thought of stealing out,
before her words reeled me in, 'you cannot leave without'
as she handed me a cheque and offered up another on the house,
(as I heard that sound echo round)
Saying so, SO, that was hilarious,
but let's be serious - how've you become so damn dismayed at modern life?
Well I know, KNOW, is sometimes I'm grave, can you dig it babe?
As a smile lit up her face from left to right,
Hi, hi,
bar'bye
